Witney can be found just off the A40, a few miles down the road from Oxford. The Conservative Party leader, David Cameron, is MP for Witney and has been since 2001.
Witney offers the usual facilities you would expect to find in an English market town the size of Witney. A leisure centre (Windrush Leisure Centre), health club (Witney Lakes Resort), parks, Sainsburys out of town supermarket and a wide slection of shops (both national chains and locally owned shops).
The shopping area of Witney is expanding with the development of Marriots Close which is due to open in Autumn 2009 giving shoppers a great excuse to stay longer in Witney.
Witney saw the worst flooding in living memory in July 2007 during which time the witneyforum (Witney Forum) became an invaluable Witney resource. The forum has since closed, but you can still view the Witney flood gallery. |
