Criminal damage to police car

Posted: 01/02/2007 16:48:30

Police are appealing for witnesses after a police car's tyres were damaged while the officer was on duty.

Between 8.15pm and 8.25pm on Wednesday 31 January, a police officer parked his marked patrol car in Vale Road, Dedworth, Windsor, near the junction with West Crescent, while he attended a nearby address.

When he returned to the car, he discovered that the two rear tyres were flat. On closer inspection, he found that each tyre had a one-centimetre-long slash. The damage is believed to have been done deliberately.

Ch Insp Jim Templer, deputy commander of Windsor and Maidenhead police area, said: “The officer was delayed for more than an hour while the car was towed to police workshops for repairs, and a replacement vehicle was found.

“However, the situation could have been far more serious. If he had been responding to an immediate emergency call, the damaged tyres could have resulted in a collision, with possible injuries or worse.

“This was a dangerous and irresponsible act of vandalism, and I am appealing to the community to help us identify the culprit.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0845 8 505 505. If you don’t want to speak to police or give your name, please call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
