Plymouth Crime Prevention Warnings
Posted: 12/06/2007 11:20:45
Police in Plymouth have noticed two recent trends in crime in the city and are warning the public about them.
Crime reports being made to the police suggest that vehicles – particularly works type vans – are being attacked in the Peverell and surrounding area. The thieves appear to be after power and other tools.
There has also been a noticeable increase in reports of thefts of lead from buildings in the city – most recently in the Mutley area but in the past months in Prince Rock, Greenbank and other central areas.
Inspector Al White at Charles Cross police station said, “Having tools stolen can have a direct effect on the owner’s livelihood so it’s important the owner takes steps to protect his property. If you can, remove all property from the vehicle, don’t leave items on display. Fit a reliable alarm”
“The theft of lead from the buildings in our communities has a two fold cost – not just the replacement of the lead but the damage that can be caused to the structure. We need everyone to be aware of this and report any suspicious behaviour. Genuine contractors working on a property won’t mind being checked by the police – but we need that call if you see anything suspicious”
