Earley neighbourhood update

Posted: 05/12/2007 13:44:30

Here is the latest neighbourhood policing update from Neighbourhood Specialist Officer PC Stuart Loudwell:

The last month has seen local Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) carry out a lot of work at schools around the neighbourhoods.

PCSO Marlisa Paice has been giving talks to students about the dangers of alcohol. This is tied in with the partnership licensing day run by Wokingham Borough Council at the Chameleon Club in Wokingham. A number of staff from Earley licensed premises attended and were able to put any questions and queries to the council and the neighbourhood team.

PCSOs Marie Moloney and Colin Reeves have also been visiting local schools, including Hillside and Maiden Erleigh, on an almost daily basis. They have been dealing with parking issues and getting to know staff and students. They have also visited the Sikh Centre in Earley to build up contacts.

A neighbourhood police surgery was held at the Crescent Community Centre and over a dozen people visited. A wide range of issues were discussed, both good and bad! and a number of matters were highlighted on other areas, which have been passed to the relevant neighbourhood teams to deal with.

Following a small number of burglaries in Earley, a group of PCSOs visited a number of local residents, handing out crime advice leaflets and offering reassurance. On the same evening 1,500 burglary awareness leaflets were handed out at Asda and Marks and Spencers in Lower Earley.

The team has been working closely with London Quadrant Housing representatives, looking at issues around the Hornbeam Drive area and we will continue to work together in order to come up with partnership solutions to problems raised by locals in the area.

Finally, we have had a very positive response from the Community Payback Team and the Phoenix Project with a view to working with them in the New Year to run a number of sessions in the area. I will keep you posted when I have more details.

In the meantime, please feel free to contact me or any members of the Earley neighbourhood policing team with any concerns or suggestions on 0845 8 505 505.
