Cycle Viewing Day in Tewkesbury

Tewkesbury Police will be holding another Cycle Viewing day on Saturday 8th March 2008.

This follows the success of the previous cycle viewing day, which was held just after Christmas.

PC Phil Groom from Tewkesbury Safer Community Team explains; “We recover so many cycles and due to a poor description being given by the loser it is often not possible to return the bikes to their rightful owners.

“This event means we can make sure we hand them back to the person who has had them stolen and give them suitable advice on how to keep them secure in the future.”

The event will take place between 10.30am and 12.30pm at Tewkesbury Police Station.

If someone has had a bicycle stolen in the area recently they can come along to the station to see if theirs has been recovered, an officer will be on hand to check documentation and hopefully return the bike to them and at the same time offer crime prevention advice.

PC Groom added; “So many cycles are stolen whilst left unlocked. If you think the average cycle is worth over £100 then people should take more care.

“You wouldn’t leave your mobile phone lying against a lamppost whilst you go off and do some shopping. It costs a few pounds to get a decent bike lock and just a few seconds to ensure it is secure.”

Tewkesbury police will also be offering SmartWater packs for just £15. This is a way of uniquely marking your bicycle as well as other valuable items, so we can identify them if they are stolen.
