Market Place Event In Truro / Roseland Area

Posted: 22/04/2008 12:41:29

Are you involved in providing any kinds of sport, creative or leisure activities for children and young people in the Truro and Roseland area ? If so then staff from Cornwall Out of Hours Learning want to hear from you.

Cornwall Out of Hours Learning is staging a special two day event in Truro in May to let children, young people and their families know what kinds of activities are available in their local area after school, at weekends and during school holidays.

"Places to Go, Things To Do "is being staged at Truro College on Friday 20th June 9.30-4pm and Saturday 21st June 10-3pm and staff from Cornwall Out of Hours Learning are keen to contact anyone involved with any kind of youth, music, creative and performing arts, sports and leisure activities or after school club in the area to invite them to take part.

The aim of the two day event, which will be targeted at children, young people and families as well as schools, school groups and professionals, is to act as a showcase for the wide range of activities which are available in Truro/Roseland and surrounding area.

The Marketplace will include taster sessions in a variety of sports and leisure activities, as well as displays and demonstrations from the providers. There will also be a soft play area for young children.

Children from local schools will be invited to attend on Friday, May 9th, with the event open to all children, young people and families on the Saturday.

"We have already contacted a large number of local providers who are interested in taking part in this exciting event but we are sure there are many more groups and individuals out there who would like to showcase their activities " said Tanya Moore, Out of Hours Learning Co-ordinator. "

"Under the Government's Extended Services agenda, schools are expected to offer a range of activities and services beyond the school day to help meet the needs of pupils, families and the wider community. These should include wraparound childcare, parenting support programmes and activities such as homework clubs, sport, music, dance and drama, arts and crafts and special interest clubs such as first aid and chess".

""All providers must book a place in advance and we would urge anyone interested in taking part to contact us on 01872 323357 or email tmoore@cornwall.gov.uk as soon as possible so they can be included in the event ".
