Woodstock Neighbourhood Management Update - July
Posted: 07/07/2008 15:05:16
Neighbourhood Specialist Officer PC Richard Conner brings this month’s update:
“June has seen an increase in car crime throughout the area: please be extra vigilant when parking your vehicle at the local beauty spots and take valuables with you, or leave them at home. There have been extra patrols in the area and these will continue.
“You may have seen me in the papers this month as the team has now received the new Blackberrys that enable us to check vehicles and persons, receive emails and check photographs of suspects, while out on patrol.
“The team has also completed the training for the body worn video cameras and you should see us out with them over the coming weeks. The cameras are worn on the shoulder and when in operation a red light flashes and the officer is identified by a florescent armband.
“The camera can be used to record anti-social behaviour which then can be played back in court resulting in the magistrates viewing an accurate record of the incident; this has resulted in more convictions.”
“On Wednesday 4 June number plates were stolen from a vehicle in Shipton Road. If you lose your number plates or have them tampered with please contact the police so we know, especially if they have been stolen. If they are later used on another vehicle to help commit a crime, yours will be the first door we come knocking on if we are unaware.
“On Thursday 5 June there was a shoplifting incident at the Co-op. A man entered the store, purchased items and hid peanuts in his clothing. He was seen by staff, arrested and ended up with an £80 ticket - it was an expensive packet of nuts!
“PCSO Phil Workman visited Bladon School on Tuesday 17 June where he showed the whole school the new Thames Valley Police DVD. The children really enjoyed the presentation and asked lots of questions when it was finished.
“The team visited the carnival on Saturday 21 June and escorted the parade. Everyone was in good spirits and no problems were reported to the team, but we did reunite a male with his lost wallet containing £250. My thanks go out to the member of public who handed it in.”
