Helping hands for young people in Axminster
Posted: 08/07/2008 21:14:51
Devon County Council's East Devon County Committee has given a helping hand to four projects which will benefit young people in the Axminster area.
The eight County Committees have budgets from which Committee Members can allocate grants to local community groups or projects which will make a big difference to people's lives, in line with the Council's Strategic Plan.
The proposal to contribute towards the four projects was put forward by County Councillor for Axminster Douglas Hull.
Axminster Primary School's Out of School club is to receive £150 towards the cost of a tv and games console; the Stepping Stones nursery is to get £100 towards the cost of a visual learning resource; and Yarcombe Young Farmers Club is to get £100 towards the cost of a summer exchange in Austria.
Cllr Hull said: "It is with much pleasure that I am able to help and assist young people. I am always looking for ways to help them enhance their lives. This is my theme for this year."
In addition Axe Valley Community College is to receive £250 for a specialist computer program to help students with dyslexia.
"My aim is to offer £250 to every primary school in my area for similar specialist programs to help pupils before they get to secondary school," said Cllr Hull.
