Stonehenge.... In Cam!

Posted: 04/09/2008 15:08:07

Cam's very own Stonehenge is now open - and children and young people are invited to climb all over it!

The project, at the Jubilee Field is officially known as the Cam Boulder Circle and comprises a circle of 10' high artificial rocks. It is the first of its kind in Gloucestershire and possibly the whole country.

Aimed at children and young people aged between 5 and 16, the Circle offers free, active and adventurous play without the need for supervision.

The Boulder Circle is part of a portfolio of projects under SDC's new Stroud and District Play and Free-time Strategy 2007-2012. Cam Parish Council and the Big Lottery Fund each contributed £25,000, while Stroud District Council (SDC) managed the project and applied for the Lottery cash

"The Jubilee Playing Field is an excellent example of the sort of free leisure opportunities for all that can be created by an imaginative parish council working in partnership. This new climbing facility is an exciting addition to those opportunities and I hope the young people of Cam will enjoy it for years to come," said Cllr John Jeffreys, Stroud District Council's Play Champion and Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture.

The Boulder Circle was officially opened by Cllr John Hudson, Chair of Stroud District Council, with the help of cadets from Cam who climbed on top and let off streamers.
