Plans for eight flats at Bromyard approved
Posted: 23/10/2008 18:36:15
Planning permission for eight flats at 22 Old Road, Bromyard, was approved by members of the northern area planning sub-committee at their meeting on Wednesday, October 22nd.
The application was deferred at the meeting held on September 24th in order for Welsh Water to be contacted about what work they intended to carry out to improve the public sewerage system in the town.
Currently vacant, the site was originally used for industrial purposes and last used as a children’s nursery. The site is within the Conservation Area and it is planned to demolish an existing building on the site.
The flats will be a three-storey block of six and a two-storey block of two with car and cycle parking provided.
Welsh Water had no objections but recommended certain conditions were imposed. They also confirmed no improvement works are planned for Bromyard within the current investment period (2005-2010). However, Welsh Water were aware of a number of homes in the town suffering from flooding and they have asked that Ofwat consider a flood prevention scheme in the area in the period 2010-2015.
Herefordshire Council’s conservation officer objected to the proposal because a large area is designated for car parking.
Herefordshire Council’s traffic manager recommended certain conditions relating to vehicular access.
Bromyard Town Council did not support the application feeling it was over-development of the site and did not enhance the street scene.
One letter of representation was received concerned about boundaries.
One letter of objection was received concerned about a right of way on the site.
