Pirate theme celebrates Bookstart Day
Posted: 03/11/2008 11:04:20
Bookstart Day was celebrated in the Herefordshire Council run Bromyard Centre and Coningsby Children’s Centre with youngsters enjoying pirate themed storytimes.
Around 35 children attended the special sessions to mark National Bookstart Day on Friday, October 10 and also enjoyed rhymes and, at Bromyard, there was even a treasure hunt and pirate’s ship in the library.
Sarah Chedgzoy, Herefordshire Council’s principal officer for young people and learning, said: “Bookstart promotes a love of learning and the pirate theme is a fun way to get children interested in reading and also fits in wonderfully as Bookstart gives away treasure chests of books to children.
“We also encouraged the youngsters to take up the Bookstart Book Crawl where they collect stickers and certificates in return for visiting any of the county’s libraries and highlighted the fact no children under five years old are charged fines or replacement charges for lost or damaged books borrowed from any of our libraries,” she added.
More information about Bookstart is available in any of the Herefordshire Libraries.
