Plans to convert barn into holiday units approved

Posted: 12/11/2008 18:26:57

Planning permission to convert a barn at Upper House, Craswall, into holiday accommodation, was approved by members of the southern area planning sub-committee at their meeting on Wednesday, November 12th.

The larger unit will provide two bedrooms, kitchen and living room with a small gallery at first floor level. The smaller unit will have one bedroom and bathroom on the first floor with a kitchen and living room below.

There will be a courtyard and parking area for the holiday units.

Herefordshire Councilís traffic manager was concerned at the poor state of the public highway and access road and wanted improvement works carried out.

Herefordshire Councilís conservation manager said the scheme made good use of existing spaces but wanted conditions prohibiting the use of external meter boxes and satellite dishes.

Craswall Parish Council objected on the grounds the road leading to the property is not suitable for more traffic. The committee agreed to add a condition requiring additional passing places to be provided.

Two letters of representation were received, one of objection and one in support. Concern was expressed about the increase in traffic but the supporting letter said more holiday accommodation was needed in the area and the scheme represented an excellent use of redundant farm buildings.
