Barrow Hill wins vote for £50,000 lottery money

Residents in the village of Barrow Hill, Chesterfield are celebrating after winning £50,000 in the BIG Lotteries Peoples Millions TV vote. The Barrow Hill ‘B Happy’ project was up against a similar project in the Leeds area as they went head to head in a telephone vote on 25 November.

The ‘B Happy’ project, which is being led by Chesterfield Borough Council, will provide a much needed recreational area for young people. Residents, community groups, partners and the Council all worked together in putting together the £50,000 bid.

Councillor for the Barrow Hill and New Whittington Ward, Cllr. David Stone, Chesterfield Borough Council said: “This is absolutely fantastic news for everyone in Barrow Hill. We were delighted to get as far as we did with the bid but to actually win the money is terrific news.

“A big thank you goes to everyone who voted for the project. We’re looking forward to working with the young people and parents in the village to help deliver a facility that can become a focal point for the whole community and give young people a much needed place to meet, play and socialise in.”
