Master composter at county garden festival
Posted: 03/06/2009 21:17:56
As part of its campaign to boost the number of people composting, one of Herefordshire Council’s Master Composters will be in Much Marcle on Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14.
Master Composter Sarah Blenkinsop, from Ledbury, is attending the Garden Festival, being held at Hellens Manor, Much Marcle, to encourage people to compost all they can and get the most out of their compost bins
Sarah said: “I will be offering hints and tips on what to put in the bin, from fruit and vegetable peelings to egg boxes and shredded paper, and how to make the most of their compost.
“There will also be useful advice on how residents can cut their food bills by reducing the amount of food they waste,” she added.
Councillor John Jarvis, Herefordshire Council’s cabinet member for the environment and strategic housing, said: “As part of our new waste collection contract, starting in November, it will be much easier for people to recycle but we will still need people to reduce the amount of household waste created and sent to landfill.
“Composting is an excellent way to do this with the added benefit that compost is an excellent soil improver for gardens,” he added.
Compost bins can be purchased at a reduced price, starting from only £12 (including £5 delivery). To order one, log onto www.recyclenow.com/compost or call 0845 076 0223.
