A pretty picture for the Dursley Festival

Posted: 03/06/2009 23:29:26

The campaign ‘DESIGNS ON DURSLEY’ (look out for a poster near you!) is supporting the annual town festival and preparations for the festival, which runs from 9:30am on Saturday 11th July 2009, are well under way.

So, as well as the range of stalls filled with local producers, entertainment, Children’s procession on the theme of fairy tales, afternoon events on the Recreation Ground, the festival will also be running an exciting digital photography competition.
“On View” – the art displayed in the empty shops along Silver Street has been a great success. It recently received a full page feature article in The Guardian in February 2009, was covered by numerous other broadcasters and newspapers.

The festival organisers would now like to get the children of Dursley involved in this success!

The competition is open to children from ages 5 to 11, young people from ages 12 to 16 and adults. The theme for the photographs is a simple one of ‘Food for thought’, as the idea behind this year’s festival is local sustainability and locally produced food, the digital photographs should reflect the growing, cooking and eating of food in Dursley. The photographs will be on display throughout the festival. The organisers want all the Head Teachers in the area to support this fantastic aspect of the festival, and help to promote the creative talents of young people in Dursley.

There will be a prize for each age group and an overall winner’s prize of a camera donated by local Dursley business Clifton Cameras.

Mark Williams, owner of Clifton Cameras says – “Clifton Cameras are proudly supporting the Dursley Festival. Local schools are being encouraged to enter a photographic competition of which we will be offering great prizes for all age groups. You can enjoy some of the entries being displayed in our shop window on the day of the festival.”

How to enter -
• Printed entries to be submitted (no larger than A4) with a name, age, and a telephone number on the back
• Entries can be made by putting them into the envelope at school’s reception or delivered to Clifton Cameras, Parsonage Street, Dursley, by Friday June 19th

Get snap happy and let Dursley see your talents!
