Dursley Festival to have a flying start!!

With just over two weeks to go until this year’s Dursley Town Festival on Saturday 11th July, it seems that the preparations are onto a flying start.

It has now been confirmed that local celebrity Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards will be opening this year’s festival at 9:30am. Stroud based Eddie, otherwise known as Eddie Edwards, is so excited by the festival that he will be there to officially open the festival to the public.

Eddie ‘The Eagle’ first rose to fame when he qualified, as the only British entry, for the 1988 Winter Olympics ski-jumping competition in Calgary. Eddie did not reach the heights of success during the games but it was his sheer determination that made people from across the globe warm to him. Eddie, during games, was in fact the best ski jumper in Great Britain. Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards went on to be a celebrity and somewhat of a hero, and he continues to be so today.

Eddie says of his visit to the festival,
“ I am really glad they asked me to do this. I am local to Dursley and feel really happy to be supporting something that is local and also about taking pride in where you live.”

So as well as the exciting food and stalls already confirmed such as Bristol’s The Real Olive Company, Cam based independent brewers Severn Ales, Absolutely Cakes from Bristol and local meat supplier Clayton Meats, the festival will now give the public a chance to meet our very own Gloucestershire celebrity.

Don’t forget there will also be a traditional barbeque with straw bales, a juice bar and Dursley Diner will be serving crepes.
