New toilets opens in Eynsham

Posted: 27/08/2009 14:40:08

Public toilet facilities are once again available in Eynsham’s Back Lane car park, thanks to a district-wide refurbishment programme being carried out by West Oxfordshire District Council.

Because of vandalism the old toilets had been closed down and were deemed unsafe.

The new modern facility is unisex with a self-contained toilet cubicle and baby changing unit. It is accessible for those with disabilities and is fully compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act. Vandal-proof materials have been used and it is coin-operated in a bid to cut down on misuse.

The toilets were officially opened by Cllr David Harvey, Cabinet Member for the Environment. Cllr Harvey said, “Providing high quality and well maintained toilets is important and so we are pleased to be re-instating this facility in the Eynsham car park as part of our promise to improve West Oxfordshire’s public conveniences.”

The Eynsham public convenience cost £75,000 and is part of the £800,000 refurbishment programme. The programme arose following a council Best Value Review, which recognised that toilet facilities in the district needed to be improved. Better cleaning and maintenance of the toilets was also highlighted, and more frequent cleaning now takes place.
