Police Donation For Youth Activities
Posted: 06/01/2010 09:58:38
Police are helping to fund youth activities in Craven Arms as part of their Local Policing work.
A number of schemes are being considered for future development to help entertain youngsters in the town.
The Local Policing Officer for Craven Arms, PC Barry Morgan has already started a football night for boys and girls on Friday nights, running from 8pm to 9pm.
He has also successfully applied to the West Mercia Police Community Fund for a donation to help with youth activities and has been granted £110.
The money will be used to help meet the hire costs of the sports hall for football and possibly go towards several proposed ventures.
PC Morgan said: "We would welcome any help from other sources in the town, but the PC Fund donation will certainly help out and help us establish the current kickabouts into regular training sessions."
He said the Local Policing Team had consulted with youngsters to see what facilities they would like to see established.
"We have also spoken to girls in and around Craven Arms and they are interested in street dance sessions. Again, there would be a cost for hiring the hall and finding a suitable coach. But with some funding it might be possible to set up some lessons."
Other possible activities for the future include an outing to a Welsh outdoor centre and setting up a pool room.
The Craven Arms donation is among seven community schemes across Shropshire receiving a share of £750. West Mercia's Police Community Fund is a small registered charity mainly made up of donations from police officers, staff and other interested parties. It also receives some proceeds from the sale of unclaimed seized property.
