Grant for Freeland Village Hall

Posted: 11/01/2010 12:45:14

West Oxfordshire District Council has pledged £100,000 to help Freeland Parish Council rebuild its existing village hall with modern facilities for local groups.

The estimated cost of rebuilding the hall is £315,000. The District Council has allocated £100,000 towards the project, although funding is dependent on the management committee securing the rest of the money needed from other organisations.

Energy and economy savings are high on the list as plans include modern insulation, double glazed windows and a high efficiency boiler. Also included in the rebuild are new kitchen and toilet facilities.

The new village hall will serve local children’s clubs, such as the Brownies and Cubs, and other community groups and activities such as the Horticultural Club and village fundraising events. In future it is hoped to develop new changing rooms, a meeting room and a community village shop on the same site.

Cllr Hilary Biles, the District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Tourism and Health, said: “The existing building is outdated and new facilities are very much needed for the village community. We are very proud to be able allocate this grant to such a worthwhile project that will support the residents of Freeland.”
