Rotary Classic Car Run raises over £7k

The Rotary Club of Chipping Sodbury (1) annual Classic Car Run took place on Sunday 26 June 2011 with 171 vintage, classic, and rare models completing the 90-mile course. The event
enjoyed a record year raising over £7000 for charitable causes.

The Club would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that participated at this year's event and for helping to make the 16th classic car run the most successful ever. This includes all en-trants, volunteers, residents and especially to Inner Wheel, U3A, and the businesses of Chip-ping Sodbury for their very generous support.

Since 1996 the club have raised over £65,000 with all proceeds donated to various charities
Including; the RNLI, 1st Chipping Sodbury Scout Group and the Churchdown Community Asso-ciation (Glos). (2) The final overall profit from the event raised £7335.

Vehicles began to arrive in Broad Street at 7.30am and within a few minutes the street was full with cars and motor cycles preparing to depart on a route that took them through parts of South Gloucestershire, North Somerset, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire with the finish at the famous Castle Combe Racing Circuit. The weather was extremely kind which added to the spectacle.

Vintage, Classic and some rare models headed off on their 90 mile run between 8.30am and 10.30am (3) giving residents, visitors and enthusiasts plenty of opportunity to meet and talk to
owners and to enjoy this wonderful spectacle.

Winner of the 'Best Overall Car' on this year's Classic Car Run was a 1928 Studebaker Com-mander BIFF owned by Chipping Sodbury resident Mr Rodney Fraser. (4)
