CDC gives green light for Stow Neighbourhood Plan

Posted: 11/09/2012 17:36:48

At its meeting on 6th September, Cotswold District Council’s Cabinet agreed to designate Stow-on-the-Wold as a Neighbourhood Area. This gives Stow the green light to develop a Neighbourhood Plan which will determine where development can take place in the town.

Neighbourhood planning is one of the flagship policies of the Government’s Localism Act, and is at the centre of its reforms to the planning system. Neighbourhood Plans will become part of the local statutory Development Plan and will form the basis for determining planning applications in that area.

The Cabinet decided that future proposals for Neigbourhood Plans will go through the Communities and Housing lead Member, Cllr CaroleTopple, in consultation with Cllr Nick Parsons, who leads on Forward Planning. However, if any plans are contentious or relate to two or more parishes, the Cabinet will determine them.

Commenting on the go-ahead for Stow, Cllr Topple said:
“We are delighted to approve Stow-on-the-Wold – one of our oldest historic market towns - as the first Neighbourhood Area in the district. This proposal has already been out for consultation with the public and local stakeholders for the required six week period but, now that Stow has been designated as a Neighbourhood Area, the actual plan can be developed. This is the opportunity for residents to become involved over the coming months and have their say on the future planning of their Town.”
