Stonehouse Police All Set For Successful Evening

Posted: 22/11/2006 16:05:40

Stonehouse police will be out in force in Nailsworth this Friday (24th November) to ensure the traditional Goodwill Evening is a safe and enjoyable event for everyone planning to attend.

As in previous years the evening will see market stalls and other attractions set up in Old Market, Nailsworth, and most of the town's shops remaining open until late.

Last year around 6,000 people attended the Goodwill Evening and this year's event is expected to attract a similar number.

To allow stallholders to set up on Friday 'No Waiting' cones will be placed across the parking area in Old Market, on the opposite side of the road to The Wine Warehouse, and across the parking spaces in the bus station.

The entrance and exit to the lower car park adjacent to the Police Station, and the car park adjacent to the Co-op, will also be taped off.

During the event officers and PCSOs (Police Community Support Officers) will carry out high visibility patrols around the town centre to help the running of the event and deter any offending.

PS Steve Irvin, of Stonehouse police, said: "The Goodwill Evening is an extremely popular event with both local residents and visitors.

"Despite the large numbers of people that attended last year we had relatively few problems to deal with, which is something we are looking to emulate this year.

"We would ask the public to help us make the evening successful by respecting the 'No Waiting' cones and taped off areas, and by adhering to any instructions they may be given by officers or PCSOs.

"If anyone wishes to report a crime they can do so by speaking to any of the officers they meet, or they can go to the police crime reduction display, which will also be in attendance."

The Goodwill Evening starts at 6pm on Friday November 24 and is expected to continue until around 10pm.
