Free entry to Corinium Museum - Cotswold residents

Posted: 18/12/2006 11:10:05

Cotswold residents are being offered a New Year's gift of a free visit to the renowned Corinium Museum, Cirencester.

The Museum, owned by Cotswold District Council, is waiving its admission fee for locals on January 3rd and 10th.

Collections Officer Judy Mills said: "We thought it would be a nice gesture to invite residents to come and view the great examples of their heritage that we have on show.

"Quite often, when something is on your doorstep you don't get round to actually visiting it. We hope our free days will encourage local people through the doors."

Visitors will need to bring proof that they live in the District, such as a driving licence or utility bill. Accompanied children do not need identification, but the offer is not open to school groups.

The Museum, which underwent a £5m transformation three years ago, is particularly well-known for its collection of objects and mosaics from Roman Cirencester. It is also home to the treasures uncovered at an Anglo Saxon cemetery at Butler's Field, Lechlade.

Visitors who attend on January 3rd will also be able to see the temporary art exhibition Tree of Life free of charge. (Please note: There is no temporary exhibition running on January 10th).

Christmas opening hours at the museum are:

* Friday 22nd December OPEN 10am - 5pm

* Saturday 23rd December to Tuesday 26th December CLOSED

* Wednesday 27th December to Saturday 30th December OPEN 10am - 5pm

* Sunday 31st December OPEN 2 - 5pm

* Monday 1st January CLOSED
