Attempted robbery Newbury
Posted: 05/01/2007 14:16:32
Police are appealing for witnesses to an attempted street robbery in Newbury.
The incident happened on the A4, on the opposite side of the road to the Starting Gate pub, near the alleyway that leads through to Speen Lodge Court.
The 34-year-old victim was walking along the road from the direction of the Shell garage when he saw three white men walking towards him.
As he was about to turn in the alleyway the group of men made him stop and one of them demanded that the victim hand over his wallet.
The victim said he did not have one and tried to pat his trousers to show this but he was then punched in the face by one of the other men.
The victim then punched the man who had demanded the wallet and ran off down the alleyway.
He turned round to see where the men were and they had run up Brummel Road past the Starting Gate pub.
The incident happened between 9pm and 9.15pm on Saturday (30/12).
The man who demanded the wallet is between 18 and 21-years-old, 5ft 8ins and he was wearing a cream hooded jacket with the word Bench written on both the front and the back, blue jeans and white trainers.
The other men were both around the same age and height, wearing dark jackets.
Anyone with any information should contact case investigator Tracy Cole at Newbury police station via 0845 8 505 505.
Alternatively, please call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
