Meeting looks at future of Malvern Primary nursery
Posted: 25/01/2007 11:16:39
Current and potential users of the nursery at Malvern Primary School are being invited to have their say on proposals to close it down.
Worcestershire County Council is out for consultation on ceasing the nursery because it is so under-used. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 7 at the school in Bluebell Close, Poolbrook, starting at 7.30pm.
Officers from the County Council will be on hand to answer questions and report back on comments made. Separate meetings are also taking place for staff and for governors.
The nursery has the potential to take 13 children during its morning and afternoon sessions, but has never been more than half full. Potentially, 38 children from the surrounding area could be using the nursery, but parents choose to send them elsewhere, if accessing free nursery education provision at all.
The County Council’s Cabinet agreed at its meeting in December to consult on closing the nursery, which costs the council taxpayer nearly £30,000 a year to run. Responses from the community, which includes staff and governors, governing bodies from other Malvern schools and local councillors, will then be reported back to Cabinet in April.
All those wishing to comment on the proposal are asked to write to Alison Cartwright, Service Development Manager – School Systems, PO Box 73, Worcester WR5 2YA.
