CSOs Join Forces with Shrewsbury Business

Posted: 29/01/2007 11:37:52

Police in Shrewsbury have joined forces with a town vehicle rental group to help community support offices get out and about to cover the large geographical area.

Burnt Tree Vehicle Solutions, on the Battlefield Enterprise Park, will hand over the keys to a new Ford Fiesta the local policing unit on Tuesday(JAN 30), which company bosses have agreed to sponsor for 12 months.

The car will make it easier and quicker for CSOs to be deployed to incidents, carry out school visits and attend meetings – but will not take time away from their visible presence pout and about “walking the beat” in their local areas.
CSO Derek Hughes-Beddows, who is based at the Guildhall in Shrewsbury town centre, approached Burnt Tree with the view to them sponsoring a vehicle.

He said: “The Local Policing Team only has a limited number of police vehicles, so I approached Burnt Tree bosses to see if they were able to help.
“They agreed to sponsor a vehicle for our use for the next twelve months, showing their commitment to supporting the police in Shrewsbury.
“The car is currently being marked up with West Mercia Constabulary’s logo and Burnt Tree will be handing over the keys to us on Tuesday.”

Carron Morgan, general manager at Burnt Tree, said the company was delighted to have come on board.
She said: “Although the police made the initial approach to us, we have been looking doing something to benefit the local community for a while and this was our chance.
“The job of community support officers is extremely important and we are pleased to be able to do something to help them and the public they serve. We are delighted with to work with the police in such a way.”
