Old boy makes flying visit to Tiverton High School
Posted: 13/02/2007 10:34:15
Former student Andrew Dearing is making a flying visit to his old school on Friday (February 16th) to talk to students about a career in the RAF.
Andrew, who was a student at Tiverton Hgh four years ago, is now a Pilot Officer in the RAF.
He will be arriving at the school in a Squirrel HT1 helicopter to give a short presentation to the older students about a career in the RAF.
Headteacher Andrew Lovett said: "It is excellent that current students can see how former students have gone on to make a success of their lives and how they achieved it. Andrew is an excellent role model for our students."
Andrew's talk to students will give an insight into life in the RAF and what being a Pilot Officer entails.
He said: "I was pleased to be asked to give this talk as it gives me the opportunity to give something back to the school and the school community.
"I hope to get over the message that students decide now how their lives will unfold and the importance of working hard particularly in the last few years of school."
Tiverton's Head of Careers, Janet Franklin, helped organise the event.
She said:"It is so important that students see how life after school is so influenced by their last few years at school.
"If any past students would like to come back to talk to our current students, we would love them to contact us."
Students will have the opportunity to see the helicopter land in the tennis courts during their lunch break at 1.35 pm.
Students who are members of the ATC will marshal the area and will be treated to a buffet lunch with Andrew and senior members of staff prior to the presentation.
