Local community celebrates opening of Centre
Posted: 15/02/2007 01:05:35
The official opening of a brand new youth centre in Wood Farm, Oxford takes place on Saturday 17, February between 12-4pm.
There will be music and competitions plus an exhibition of art, film and performance work produced by young people.
A series of activity sessions to introduce young people to the new youth centre is underway including circus workshops, street art, dance, film and video work.
The county council has invested £144,000 in the new centre on Titup Hall Drive.
The Youth Worker who is based in Wood Farm, Simon Edmondson, said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming everyone to the new youth centre. It is a space for all the young people in the local area to enjoy and we’ll be running a full range of activities and youth projects throughout the year.”
Councillor Louise Chapman, the county council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Families, said: “I’m delighted that the youth centre will be celebrating its grand opening. It’s really important that young people have a good range of activities available to them when they want to go out.”
Partnership working has been key in making the project happen - The Wood Farm Youth Centre management committee is made up of a number of local groups including the Wood Farm Action Group, Wood Farm Tenants Association, the local churches, the Paradise Crew Youth Group and Oxfordshire County Council’s Youth Support Services.
