Posted: 27/02/2007 23:35:31

Calne Police in conjunction with both uniform and CID officers at Chippenham have made a remarkable recovery of over 70 items including petrol strimmers, hedge trimmers, mowers and various tools and garden machinery from a house in Cherill on Tuesday.

The officers acting upon intelligence made the discovery and have arrested two men on suspicion of handling stolen property. They have been released on police bail to reappear at a later date, whilst officers trawl through the stolen property and attempt to match it against the crime reports in and around the area.

Should any resident who has not reported any burglary to a garage, shed or outhouse, or perhaps a worker who has had tools stolen which has not been reported, then contact Calne Police, or e mail the police via the Wiltshire Police web site and one of the investigating team will contact you. The contact number is 0845 408 7000.

Inspector Gavin Williams, head of policing for Calne and Corsham said "This was an excellent piece of work instigated by PC's Ansell and Boardman at Calne and well supported by officers at Chippenham in recovering such a large amount and high value of stolen property, we are now working hard at tracing all victims and progressing the investigation'.

270207 - Following the publication of the above entry, we have now been able to establish that a large proportion of the recovered property, had been stolen from the Trowbridge, Westbury, Mere and Frome areas, but we are still anxious to speak to anyone who may have had similar items stolen from garages, sheds and outhouses. If you are one of these people, please contact the above number as soon as possible.
