Dispersal order for Catshill

Posted: 02/03/2007 10:19:28

A dispersal order has been granted for four roads in the Catshill area of Bromsgrove after residents raised concerns about anti social behaviour.

The Section 30 order, the first granted for Bromsgrove North, comes into effect on Monday 12th March and will run until 12th June.

It covers Bourne Avenue, Chadcote Way, Woodrow Close and Springs Avenue.

The order means that where police or Community Support Officers believe the presence or behaviour of more than two people has caused or is likely to cause members of the public to feel intimidated, harassed, alarmed or distressed, they can be dispersed and ordered to leave the area.

It also enables the officers to take home any young person under the age of 16 between 9pm and 6am. If they fail to comply, they can be arrested.

Sergeant Nick Husbands said: “Dispersal orders are increasingly being used by North Worcestershire Police where anti social behaviour has become a significant and persistent problem.

“Catshill residents have raised concerns at several recent PACT (Partners and Communities Together) meetings about groups of eight to ten youths gathering outside their homes.

“These youths have been knocking on doors, throwing stones at homes and vehicles, and generally making a nuisance of themselves, and residents have understandably felt intimidated.

“This kind of behaviour which affects other people’s quality of life is clearly unacceptable and the dispersal order demonstrates that we are taking residents’ concerns seriously and doing something about the problem.

“We have been encouraged by results achieved in other parts of North Worcestershire, most recently Kidderminster, where a dispersal order came into force on February 12 and is already beginning to improve the situation for residents there.”

The next PACT meeting for Catshill and Marlbrook is on Monday 12th March at 7pm at Catshill Baptist Church, Milton Road, while the next PACT meeting for Sidemoor and Norton is on Tuesday 13th March, at 7pm at New Song Church, Broad Street.
