Woodstock Neighbourhood Management Update
Posted: 06/03/2007 22:24:18
Sgt David Yates provides the March update for Woodstock and surrounding villages: "I am happy to report that February has seen another reduction in crime compared with the corresponding period from last year. The team continues to deliver high visibility policing, which brings reassurance within our community and acts as a deterrent against crime.
Woodstock and Bladon "We had one incident of a distraction burglary in Woodstock; this is a particularly obnoxious crime so can we please be aware as a community and look at the E-fit pictures on the TVP website. Common features in this type of crime are the offenders purporting to be from the utility companies. Any technician from gas, water, electric companies etc would have to produce official identification. Please ask to see such 'ID'. If in any doubt, do not allow them access.
"The weather was another culprit this month, with vehicles (for a short time), unable to get up Oxford Street/Manor Road. Thanks for the patience of everyone caught up in the snow and to the Highways Department for clearing the roads.
"Good news may be hard to find, but people have handed in valuable items which have been reunited with some very grateful owners."
Freeland and Hanborough "No calls of any significance from Freeland and Church Hanborough, but Long Hanborough has seen a couple of burglaries to non-dwellings and two accounts of shoplifting. Enquiries are on-going after receiving some good descriptions of possible offenders.
"We have had reports of antisocial behaviour in the village, so we will endeavour to give more time to patrols. In the area of Coffin Lane there has been a report of people setting fire to a badger sett; this is a cruel and very serious offence and when the culprits are found the consequences will be severe."
Stonesfield and Combe "The two villages have been relatively quiet over the last month, the hi-visibility patrols have been helping, as well as residents coming forward with vital information, which has been very welcome."
Tackley and Rousham "A theft was reported in Tackley and due to the quick thinking and actions of some residents a person has been arrested for this crime.
"We have had a report of fly-tipping out towards Rousham. Can we please ask residents to continue to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity."
Kiddington, Glympton and Wootton "There have been mainly traffic-related incidents in and around the villages and primarily due to the inclement weather earlier in the month."
Last but not least "The team will also be enforcing the new mobile phone regulations which cover driving and came into force this month. If you are caught using a mobile phone illegally whilst driving you will receive a £60 fixed penalty and three points on your license. You have been warned!"
