Bude Fire Station - In Top Four For Fundraising
Posted: 21/03/2007 19:47:01
Bude Fire Station has been recognised as one of the top fundraising stations in the country at a national award ceremony held by the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund.
Last weekend Station Officer DarylWellington and his wife Denise represented Bude at the 'Spirit of Fire' awards ceremony in Cambridge. Unfortunately they did not come away with the top prize; it was awarded to a fire station in Scotland.
Bude Fire Station is a retained fire station. This means that firefighters at the station are committed to providing an emergency response twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. 365 days a year.
For their 'day job' some of the firefighters are self-employed and some work for an external employer. They also have families and need to ensure that a work / life balance can be achieved. This requires dedication, and can be seen across the rest of Cornwall, and throughout the British Fire Service.
"Daryl and his wife Denise are huge supporters of the fire service and they are both members of the Fire Service National Benevolent Fund committee. Their combined enthusiasm for the benevolent fund is reflected throughout the station and around the local community of Bude" said Sub Officer KathrynBilling, FSNBF Secretary.
The stations achievements and commitment have not just been going on over the last 12 months. Here is a summary of their volunteer fundraising events that they have instigated, arranged and undertaken for the benevolent fund;
* Charity Fashion Show * Ladder Climb * Bude Fire Station Summer Open Day * Community Fire Station Open Evening * The Car Wash
Their fund raising activities have raised money for the fund, and the charity's profile.
Kathryn added: "Bude Fire station's outstanding contributions have now been recognised at national level. Within Cornwall the station is very well respected and admired for their efforts and contributions"
