Armed robbery, Calne
Posted: 21/03/2007 19:48:30
At approximately 1015 hours on Sunday 18th March 2007, an assault took place on a male and female inside a flat situated on The Green, Calne. At that time, 4 men, described as Asian or mixed race, gained entry to the flat on the pretext of checking the telephone sockets. 1 of the men produced a handgun; a second man produced a hammer, and the 4 men demanded money from the couple.
The 20 year old female occupant of the flat was then held down by one of the men, whilst her 35 year old partner was attacked by the man, who was in possession of the hammer. He was struck several times on the head and arms, whilst further demands for cash were made, and eventually £400 cash was handed over.
The 2 victims then managed to escape from the men and ran out into The Green.
It is believed that the 4 men made good their escape in a small silver coloured Audi saloon car; the exact direction of their travel is unknown but witnesses are able to state that they heard a car engine making off at speed.
Only limited descriptions of 2 of the men are available, as follows:-
Male 1. Asian origin, but with light coloured skin, medium build, aged 20-22 years, 510 tall, square face, brown eyes, bushy eyebrows, and had 1 or 2 days growth of stubble on his face. He had a skin head haircut. This is the male in possession of the hammer.
Male 2. Asian origin, but with medium coloured skin, thin build but not skinny, aged 17 years old, 56 tall, a short back and sides haircut which was jelled forwards into a fringe which went half way down his forehead. He was possibly wearing a gold coloured bracelet. This was the man brandishing the handgun.
Both these men were wearing purple coloured polo shirts and lime green coloured fleece jackets.
There are no descriptions available of the other 2 offenders.
Following the assaults, the 35 year old victim was taken to Great Western Hospital, Swindon, where he was treated for head and arm injuries, but after examination by medical staff, was not detained in hospital. The female injured her ankle whilst escaping and was taken to Chippenham hospital for treatment, and has been released
Detective Constable Amanda Carver from Chippenham CID is investigating this incident and is appealing for help from members of the public, as follows:-
1. Any members of the public who were in The Green, Calne, or nearby to The Green between 1000 hours and 1045 hours on Sunday morning, who have not yet spoken to the Police.
2. Anyone who may have seen a silver coloured car driving at speed, away from the direction of The Green, or through the town centre.
3. Anyone with information as to the possible identity of the offenders
Should anyone be able to help us, they are asked to contact Detective Constable Carver on 0845 408 7000, or alternatively, anonymous information may be left on the Crimestoppers line 0800 555111.
