Local author Rowland Molony at Sidmouth Library

Posted: 06/05/2007 13:03:57

Local author Rowland Molony will be meeting his readers for lunch later this month at Sidmouth Library.

Rowland's first book, a children's novel entitled After the Death of Alice Bennett was also a surprise hit with adult readers. He taught English for many years at Sidmouth College.

Born in Kent, he left school aged 15 and joined the RAF. Later in life he spent several years in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, where he met and married Elizabeth Baxendale and where their two daughters, Emma and Susie, were born.

Most of his life has been involved with poems, the natural world, and the teaching of English Literature and philosophy.

He lives near Sidmouth and keeps bees.

Executive Member for Culture, Councillor Sheila Hobden, said: "Amongst our extensive programme of visits by authors it is always particularly pleasing to welcome a local writer."

County Councillor for Sidmouth Sidford Stuart Hughes said "Here is a golden opportunity for both current and new library users to meet listen and chat with a well known local author who has also worked in the local community."

Rowland Molony will be at Sidmouth library on Tuesday 15 May at 1.30pm.

Tickets are 3.50. Telephone 01395 512192.
