Last places left at Redditch recruitment sessions

Posted: 30/05/2007 23:33:12

Places at West Mercia Constabulary’s summer recruitment sessions have been quickly snapped up and the only places left are at Redditch on Wednesday 27th June.

The Redditch recruitment sessions will run from 4pm-6pm and 7pm-9pm. Only application forms obtained at these sessions will be accepted during this recruitment process. Anyone who is interested in applying should call 01905 331433.

Potential student officers attending these evenings will receive an application form and will also have the opportunity to talk to serving officers to find out what being a police officer is really like and what the job actually entails. They will also be able to find out more about the recruitment process.

The force needs to recruit around 140 new police officers over the coming months and is particularly keen to hear from people from minority ethnic backgrounds and women who are interested in a career in policing.

Sergeant Jane Gilkes from the force’s Positive Action team explains why the force is keen to recruit people from minority ethnic communities and women:

“West Mercia Constabulary serves a range of diverse communities and is committed to ensuring those communities are represented in its work force. The force believes it is important to meet the needs and understand the opinions of the communities we serve and we can only fully achieve this by ensuring that the minority communities are fairly represented by the officers that serve them.

“In order to achieve our aim of having a more diverse work force we must recruit more minority ethnic and women officers.

“With this in mind we would like people from minority ethnic communities, particularly women, to book a place and attend one of the recruitment sessions in order to find out more about a career with West Mercia Constabulary.

“However, we are keen to hear from anyone who is interested in a career with the force and who believes they have the qualities needed to be a good police officer.”

A career with the police offers people the opportunity to do something worthwhile and enables them to make a difference to the community they live in.

After two years with the force, and having successfully completed a probation period, officers have the opportunity to specialise and can apply to join departments such as the Dog Section, Firearms, Criminal Investigation Department, Automatic Number Plate Recognition Team, Central Motorway Police Group, Serious and Organised Crime Unit, Public Protection Unit, Special Branch and the High Tech Crime Unit.
