New Opening Times at Bowithick Recycling Centre

Posted: 18/06/2007 12:52:09

Following discussions with local residents and councillors, from July 6th the Bowithick Recycling Centre at Tintagel will be open every weekend.

Members of the public will be able to visit the site on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays which will be more convenient than the current arrangements under which the site is closed Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday.

In future Bowithick will be closed midweek.

On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from July, when the site is closed, householders can visit alternative sites at Launceston, Liskeard or Bodmin. There are also recycling banks at Delabole, Tintagel and Camelford.

During the summer (April to September) Bowithick opening hours (Fri - Mon) will be 9am to 6pm and in winter (Oct to March) 9am to 4pm.

The site is one of the smallest in Cornwall and from July will be operated by SITA Cornwall on behalf of the County Council.

In addition to general rubbish the Bowithick site will accept the same materials as previously, with as much as possible sent for recycling:

* Garden waste
* Glass
* Metals
* Fridges
* TVs and computers
* Car batteries
* Tyres

If space allows collection containers for additional recyclable materials will be added, to help increase the site's recycling rate from its current 35 per cent.

The new arrangements will be reviewed after five years.
