Mayor Lends His Support To Positive Action Events

Posted: 10/08/2007 10:26:02

West Mercia Constabulary's Positive Action Team have organised two informal careers events in Worcester for the local community.

West Mercia Positive Action Team, in partnership with Worcestershire Racial Equality Council, welcomes black and ethnic minority communities to come and find out more about the careers opportunities on offer:

The first event on Friday 17 August between 1pm and 4pm at the Bradbury Centre, Sansome Walk, Worcester, will be officially opened by Mayor of Worcester Councillor Stephen Inman. The second event takes place on Friday 24 August between 2pm and 5pm at the Horizon City Centre Community Centre, Midland Rd, Worcester.

Other organisations represented at the events include; Job Centre Plus, Connexions, Learning and Skills Council, Ethnic Access Link. The Local Policing Team will also attend.

Balbinder Kular-Taylor, from West Mercia Constabulary’s Positive Action Team, said: “ These events have been organised in light of Positive Action legislation which enables employers to use initiatives to encourage individuals from minority groups to compete on equal terms for jobs, development and training in areas where there is under-representation.

“West Mercia Constabulary is committed to ensuring that its workforce reflects the diverse communities it serves and in order to achieve this we aim to recruit more black and ethnic minority police officers, Community Support Officers, Specials and police staff.”

For more information about the events or to find out more about West Mercia Constabulary and Positive Action please contact the Positive Action Team. Balbinder Kular-Taylor can be contacted on 01905 331692 or call Richard Thornhill 01905 331691.
