Appeal to parents over parking
Posted: 12/09/2007 16:13:17
Parents at a Kidderminster school are being urged to park more responsibly.
The subject of illegal and dangerous parking around Franche Primary School, Chestnut Grove, was a priority at the last PACT (Partners and Communities Together) meeting on 18th June.
Local Policing Officer PC Paul Noke said police daily received complaints from local residents that driveways were being blocked, despite the Co-Op supermarket allowing parents to use their car park when dropping off and picking up children.
He said parents were continuing to park illegally on double yellow lines in the area and on the yellow zig zag lines immediately outside the school, putting children in danger, and warned police would be carrying out high visibility patrols and handing out £30 fixed penalty tickets.
The school is being asked to circulate copies of the letter to parents.
PC Noke said: "We know similar problems exist at many locations in Wyre Forest, and that many residents and other road users get extremely annoyed about the congestion around schools.
"There is no easy solution but it would help if parents allowed a bit more time to drop off or collect their children and parked a little further away, or, as in the case of Franche Primary, used a suitable car park.
"Walking buses are also options for those schools which do not already have them."
The next PACT meeting is on Monday 17th September at the school at 7pm.
