Council pitches in with grant for new mower
Posted: 26/09/2007 16:55:48
Players of all ages should soon be benefiting from better cut pitches at Carterton Football Club thanks to new mowing equipment part-funded by a grant worth more than £1,900 from West Oxfordshire District Council. A second grant, this time for almost £3,700, has been allocated to improve security and insulation at Witney Bowls Club with the money representing a quarter of the cost of new doors and windows for the clubhouse. Both grants were agreed today by the Council’s Cabinet and represent the second out of four rounds of funding bids possible in the year to March 2008 under the Sport & Active Recreation scheme. This aims to support the Council policy to encourage leisure and cultural opportunities for all and to promote healthy living and social inclusion. `“We are always more than happy to consider bids from local sporting clubs for financial help to improve or maintain the facilities they provide and we have a specific budget to cover this, “said Cllr Hilary Biles, Cabinet Member for Leisure & Tourism. “Although we are half way through the financial year now, we still have some money left which can also fund grants to help cover the cost of things like play facilities or repairs to village halls.” “But I would advise any organisation thinking of applying to get their bid together and submit it as soon as they possibly can.”
