Newquay Cornwall Airport Announces New Flights To Dusseldorf With Lufthansa

Newquay Cornwall Airport is pleased to announce a new route to Dusseldorf by Lufthansa next year. From June 2008 the German carrier will be operating weekly Saturday services to this important German city in the heart of the Rhein-Ruhr region.

Chris Cain, Newquay Cornwall Airport's Project Director, said: "We are delighted to welcome Lufthansa as a new airline to Newquay. This is great news for the Cornish community, business and leisure travellers. Germany is Cornwall's strongest overseas tourist market having been popularised by the German television dramatisation of the novels by Rosamunde Pilcher and we are confident this direct link will provide an even greater boost for inbound tourism from Germany."

"Lufthansa is the third mainline carrier at the airport, with Swiss and British Airways already enjoying success on their routes to Zurich and London Gatwick respectively. This is further evidence that Cornwall is not just attractive to the low cost carriers."

In recent research conducted by the airport, it was noted that 67% of those surveyed would prefer to fly direct from Newquay to European destinations. "It is especially satisfying to deliver so quickly after the research was concluded," commented Chris Cain. "Our customers tell us they especially want direct flights to Germany and Spain and I'm certain this direct link with Dusseldorf will be very well received."

High on the shopping list for summer 2008, for which Newquay will be courting airlines at Routes this week, are flights to Amsterdam and Paris, plus other key cities in Germany as well as Spain. There is also a strong demand for domestic flights from Newquay to the West Midlands, Newcastle and Glasgow and the airport is keen to pursue weekend charter flights from London City Airport to Cornwall to complement its London Gatwick and Stansted services currently flown by Air Southwest, British Airways and Ryanair.
