Motorcyclist Killed in Albrighton Road Collision

A motorcyclist was killed in a road collision with a car on the A41 Albrighton by-pass, near Shifnal yesterday afternoon.

The motorcyclist, a man in his sixties, was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision at 4.35pm.

Police are investigating the circumstances and today appealed for witnesses who saw the collision, or either vehicle immediately beforehand.

The vehicles were a gold coloured Suzuki 600cc motorcycle and a blue Vauxhall Astra. The woman driver suffered severe shock but was otherwise unhurt.

Police say the collision happened on the A41 at its junction with Kingswood Road. It’s believed the motorcycle had been travelling along Kingswood Road towards the A41 and the car was heading north towards Newport.

The motorcycle rider has not yet been formally identified but is believed to come from Staffordshire.

A police spokesman said: “We are anxious to hear from anyone who saw the collision or the circumstances leading up to it. The number to call is 08457-444-888.”

Officers are preparing a report for the South Shropshire coroner Mr Anthony Sibcy. A post motem was due to be held at the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford today.

The road was closed for about five hours while the emergency services worked at the scene.
