Carterton in Peoples’ Millions Final
Posted: 20/11/2007 17:24:56
Carterton’s project to improve Tower Square has reached the final for the Lottery Fund - The Peoples’ Millions.
The project, called ‘Put Heart into our Square’ is in the final shortlist for up to £80,000 Big Lottery Funding. It has been selected as part of the People’s Millions contest and is dependant on public voting to win. A much-needed redevelopment of Carterton’s only public square, Tower Square, would give the town an attractive focal point and meeting area. The scheme would include repaving, new seating and a mosaic developed by the community working alongside a professional artist. The proposed scheme will be competing head-to-head with an Oxford project on Tuesday 27th November. Maxine Crossland, who has played a key role in developing the project is urging local people to vote that day. She said: ‘This is such an exciting project and it would make a huge difference to the centre of our town I hope that everyone across the district will support us on the day by voting for Carterton.’
The number for voting will be published on the morning of 27th November on www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/peoplesmillions . You can also get the number from the Carterton Town Hall (tel 01993 842156) or from the posters that will be displayed through out the town that day. Calls can be made from 9 am to midnight on the 27th November and will cost 10p. ITV Thames will also be featuring the project on their news show at 6 pm on the 27th November.
