Did you see distraction burglary in Bradford on Av
Posted: 28/11/2007 16:37:58
Police are appealing for witnesses to an attempted distraction burglary at the home of an elderly lady in Bradford-on-Avon yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 27th November).
At around 5pm, a man called at a house in the Widbrook area of the town claiming to be from the waterboard. The lady, who was in her 70s, let him in but shortly afterwards became suspicious and stated that a relative was due to return soon. The man then left immediately without taking anything.
The man is described as white, in his mid-40s and with dark, wavy hair. He was wearing a dark jacket, a white formal open-necked shirt and dark, smart trousers.
Speaking about the incident, Detective Constable Mandy Carver said:
“I am appealing for anyone who saw this man in the area at the time or noticed a vehicle nearby which was not local to the area. Anyone with information should contact me as soon as they can.
“Please remember not to open your door to visitors who you are not expecting and do not recognise. Distraction burglars can be very persuasive if you open your door and give them the chance to engage in conversation. Keep your door firmly shut and remember Stay Out Stranger.”
Witnesses or anyone with information should contact DC Carver on 0845 408 7000 or alternatively phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
