Pedestrian Injured in Shrewsbury RTC
Posted: 04/01/2008 13:15:38
Police in Shrewsbury are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian suffered serious head injuries when he was in collision with a van.
The man, who is in his 20s, was crossing Monkmoor Road near Whitehall Mansions when the incident occurred just after 3pm on 2nd January.
A Renault Master tipper van was the vehicle involved and suffered damage to the front nearside. The male driver of the van was not injured.
The pedestrian was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and was last night moved to the high dependency ward. His condition is described as stable.
Constable Tim Viner, who is investigating the circumstances of the collision, said the van had been travelling along Monkmoor Road towards Abbey Foregate at the time.
He said: “We would appeal to anyone who saw this incident take place or who witnessed either the vehicle being driven or the pedestrian in the area beforehand to please call the police on 08457 444888.
“It is thought that the man was crossing the road when the collision occurred. He suffered serious head injuries but is now stable in hospital.”
Monkmoor Road was closed between its junctions with Abbey Foregate and Bishop Street while the emergency services and police collision investigators worked at the scene. It was reopened at about 5.30pm.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Shrewsbury Police on 08457 444888.
