BluesNZus comes to Salisbury
Posted: 18/01/2008 10:19:01
Wiltshire Police are to extend the BluesNZus scheme for young persons to the Salisbury area, starting Thursday January 24th 2008.
BluesNZus is a regular monthly disco/night club that has been running successfully in Marlborough, Tidworth and Devizes throughout 2007. It is promoted as a safe environment for young people aged 11-15 to enjoy the latest music and dance, supervised by local police officers and support staff. It has also proved to be an effective way of improving community links between young people and police with evidence that on days when the events have been held in the Kennet area, reports of anti-social behaviour have significantly reduced.
The Salisbury BluesNZus events are to be held at Salisbury Football Club Sarum Suite and have been organised with support from several local partners. Salisbury FC have given assistance with the venue and Wilts and Dorset are providing two free bus services, with pick-up points from Harnham, Wilton, Bemerton Heath, the Friary, Laverstock, Bishopdown and the City centre. Both free bus services will have timetables published and will have Police staff travelling on board, both to and from the venue.
Salisbury District Council’s Community Initiatives department have provided significant funding towards the start-up costs, demonstrating their commitment to providing facilities and support for young people within the community.
BluesNZus has attracted support and funding from local businesses that have recognised the community benefits that will result from this initiative. The organisers are also looking for further support from other local businesses who would like to become involved in this exciting venture.
Salisbury Neighbourhood Policing Team fully supports the BlueNZus initiative and officers are looking forward to working with young people from the Salisbury and surrounding areas to provide a safe and enjoyable event.
Salisbury BluesNZus will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month, with the first event taking place on Thursday 24th January 2008 between 7pm and 9pm at Salisbury Football Club. Entry costs only £2 and includes a free soft drink.
For more information please contact Police Community Support Officer, Will Todd on 0845 408 7000.
