Carterton Neighbourhood Management Update

Posted: 05/02/2008 19:36:20

PCSO Angela Alford provides February's update:

“During the last month things have been generally quiet. Graffiti has been sprayed on a new building on the Ventura Park industrial estate.

“A small amount of alcohol was found at the skate park. A group of 20 youths nearby were not drunk and did not claim the discovered alcohol.

“Attendance at the local pre-school to introduce the children to their local police officers and PCSOs proved eventful. The children where given a small insight into what the police do and where they can go if they are lost or concerned. They particularly enjoyed looking at the police car and seeing the blue lights work and how loud the siren is. Future visits to local schools are planned.

“One mention of speeding issues came to light in York Road, but it was discovered that there is no pavement and this does not help pedestrians when faced with oncoming traffic. Speed humps are in place within the area and do generally have a noticeable impact on speeding vehicles.”

“One incident of graffiti has been recorded in the Burford area. PCSO Petra Summers is in contact with the local boarding school in order to meet some of the new intake for Burford School. Some of the underage youths in the town have attempted to purchase alcohol but failed. We thank the local publicans for their stance and for keeping us informed.

“Parking is an issue in and around the school pick up and drop off times at Priory Lane. This is an ongoing problem that the local officer is dealing with.

“Criminal damage was caused to a window in Pytt’s Lane and enquiries are being made regarding this. If you have any information then please let us know.”

“Despite a recent incident involving the theft of two motorbikes, which also resulted in criminal damage to a neighbour’s fence, Bampton has been relatively quiet since Christmas. Intelligence we have received along with their return within 24 hours following our enquiries, lead us to believe that this is a local crime. We are continuing to pursue this.

“The market place is busy and the ongoing work to the toilets will hopefully improve the building in the area and possibly the behaviour of the youths that congregate there.

“The local coffee shop opening late last year is a good focal point for youths to meet and also offered a job opportunity for one of them.

“There has been a recent incident involving the use of a motorbike on the skate park, enquiries are ongoing.

“There was an incident of a cat being shot and badly injured in the Aston area on 11 January. We have made enquiries but if you saw anything suspicious or have any information please contact us.

“I have recently returned to work on light duties following an operation; however the Bampton and rural areas have been manned by the rest of the team in my absence.”
