New toilets open in Bampton

Posted: 31/03/2008 13:32:36

Major refurbishment of the public conveniences in Bampton is now complete and they were officially opened on Monday 31st March.

The two new modern facilities are unisex and include self-contained cubicles and baby changing facilities. One of the units has access for those with disabilities and is fully compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act. They are both coin-operated in a bid to cut down on vandalism and misuse.

The toilets were opened by Cllr Mark Booty, Cabinet Member and ward councillor for Bampton. Cllr Booty said, “The new toilets are a great improvement as the old ones were in a very poor condition. They will be appreciated by all those who live and work in Bampton as well as the many visitors passing through.”

Refurbishing the Bampton public conveniences has cost £65,000 and is part of a major refurbishment programme across the district costing a total of £819,000.

The refurbishment programme has arisen following the recommendations of a council Best Value Review Group. The Group recognised that toilet facilities in the District needed to be improved. Better cleaning and maintenance of the toilets was also highlighted, and more frequent cleaning now takes place.
