County Council starts work on extending school
Posted: 24/04/2008 20:48:04
Worcestershire County Council’s Property Services has started work on extending a primary school near Bewdley – that will take pupils closer to the great outdoors.
Work on refurbishing areas of the existing Far Forest Lea Memorial First School got underway this month (April).
The work, which is being carried out at the New Road-based school as part of the Wyre Forest Area Review, involves building an extension that will incorporate two new classrooms, an art and design space, cloakrooms, a disabled toilet and brand new pupil entrance.
Malcolm Williams, Worcestershire County Council’s Head of Property Services, said: “We’re pleased to have started work on this project, which will provide modern teaching spaces in the extension, which is in keeping with the Victorian architecture of the school.”
As part of the scheme, Property Services will create a new path through the orchard next to the school, which will provide pupils with a pleasant and safe route to and from school.
The project, which is set to be completed in December this year, is anticipated to cost just over £750,000.
All 45 schools in the Wyre Forest area closed on August 31 last year and 30 new ones opened in their place on September 1 last year as part of the Wyre Forest Area Review. The new primary and secondary schools in the Wyre Forest area are replacing the previous three-tier system.
