New play area for Madley Park
Posted: 25/04/2008 10:21:03
Children living in Madley Park, Witney will soon have a new play area. On site work at Waterford Lane is due to start on May 6th to be complete and ready for use by mid- June. It is being financed by West Oxfordshire District Council at a cost of £40,000 and will be managed by Witney Town Council. The play area is for children aged eight years and under and will include swings, a slide and two ground level trampolines. West Oxfordshire District Council has been working with local residents and Witney Town Council on the overall design of the play area and the equipment chosen. Mrs Lynn Moxham lives at Waterford Lane and has two 2 young children aged one and 3 years old. She was one of the residents involved in choosing the design and equipment. She said, “I was asked by the Council for my opinion and given the opportunity to discuss with other mums and dads in the area. It was good to be involved and talk to others who will be using the play area to make sure it is suitable.” Councillor Hilary Biles, Cabinet Member for Health, Leisure & Tourism said “Providing high quality leisure facilities is a priority for the Council. It is important for young people to have access to a play area close to home, so they can have fun and plenty of exercise at the same time. “The Waterford Lane facility will be the second big boost to play in West Oxfordshire since the start of the current financial year as we launched the new Play Rangers service in April.” The District Council’s Play Ranger service is run by Oxfordshire Play Association with the backing of a Big Lottery Fund grant obtained by the Council. Play Rangers started during the Spring school holidays and now runs every Tuesday at Trefoil Way play area in Carterton and every Thursday at the Recreation Ground, New Street, Chipping Norton. The aim is to encourage children to use their imagination in creating their own outdoor fun activities.
