A Million Hours of Kindness
Posted: 03/05/2008 18:29:52
Bromsgrove Police are urging people to roll up their sleeves and take part in the Hope 08 clean up of Charford.
The Bromsgrove Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership – Bromsgrove District Council, Bromsgrove District Housing Trust, Hereford and Worcester Fire Service and Bromsgrove Police - in conjunction with Hope 08, are carrying out the clean up on Saturday 10th May.
Hope 08, a Million Hours of Kindness, is a national Christian event.
In Bromsgrove, 200 church, police and council volunteers are meeting at St Andrews Church Hall at 10am.
The clean up will include litter picking, hedge trimming, repairing and painting fences, and brook clearance.
Inspector Dave Shaw of Bromsgrove Police, who is among those taking part, said: “Areas which look neglected and have been vandalised can become targets for further damage.
“Not only will the clean-up improve the appearance of the area, it will have practical benefits. For example, repairing fences will help keep intruders out while trimming hedges will ensure homes can be seen from the road, as well as opening up paths and alleys and providing less hiding places.
“We want to encourage residents to take ownership for the area in which they live and to take pride in it, and we very much hope people will come and spare a couple of hours.”
If any member of the public would like to be involved on the day they are asked to turn up at the church hall when they will be given a task.
The clear-up follows an Environmental Visual Audit or “walkabout” in Charford in March to identify areas for the volunteers to tidy up.
